Week 2 in the MTC

Monday, July 20, 2015

Tyler is now a missionary!

He got set apart on Tuesday evening July 14th by the stake President, President Bowden. He gave Tyler a beautiful blessing. It was an emotional time. Dad is his first companion.

Tyler after he got set apart as a missionary

Tyler chose to eat at Cafe Rio for our last meal together. I couldnt really eat. I was too emotional.

Tori couldn't go to the MTC with us, so she said good-bye at her apartment.

We said our goodbyes at the Provo temple across the street from the MTC. You have to be quick dropping them at the front of the MTC.

Such a handsome missionary

I just didn't want to let him go!

Dad is proud and excited!

Saying good-bye for 2 years was soooooo hard!

We left at about 8 am Wednesday morning to drive to Provo to take Tyler to the MTC. We went to Cafe Rio for a final meal together. Tyler reported to the MTC at 2 pm It was really hard to say good-bye. 2 years is a long time. But we are all excited for Tyler's journey.

We got a first email on Saturday morning.

Hola Everyone! These past few days have been really busy but fulfilling and rewarding! I am learning so much all ready and loving it! So much has already happened so I can't remember a whole lot of what happened and how I felt, but I have been writing in my journal so that helps. A little bit about my district: Elder Wilcox is my companion, he is from Heber City, Utah and is really cool! He did cross country in high school and was the Student Body President for Wasatch HIgh. He likes hiking and anything outdoors. He is really friendly and talkative to everyone! I hope some of that can rub off on me! We get along really well and I know we can learn a lot from each other. There are 10 in my district split into two rooms, or residence halls. There are 6 in my dorm. Elder Skaggs and Elder WiHongi are companions. Elder Skaggs is from L.A and si the oldest of us at 20. He went to two years at BYU. Elder WiHongi is from New Zealand! He loves rugby and is like 6' 5"! It has been cool to talk to him about that. Elder Lowe and Elder Marchant are also in our room. Marchant likes football and Lowe likes the outdoors and was actually friends with my companion Elder Wilcox in high school. So they are pretty happy about that! In the other room, there is Elder Jackson, who is a really good soccer player and his companero es Elder Brown from Las Vegas. Elder Baldwin and Elder Bakker are both from Utah too but I forgot what they like haha.

I have had so many different emotions these past few days! But overall I love it here! So far each day as been filled with so much to do and feels like a week per day haha. My testimony has already grown so much and mi Espanol es coming along slowly. So a little bit about my schedule. On Wednsday, I checked in and got my books and stuff and then went and met my companion and district in our classroom where we spend the majority of our time. Hermano Barfuss is our teacher and he only speaks Spanish to us. So it is kinda hard to learn Spanish in Spanish haha. But luckily my companion knows a lot more spanish than me so that helps a lot! Our distritct is so similar we get along very well! I know I have been blessed! Have we struggled to understand our teacher in Spanish we went to the cafeteria for dinner at like 4:15. I wasn't hungry at all so I just got familiar with the cafeteria and ate a salad. After that all the new missionaries met in a room to meet the MTC Precidency. I really enjoyed what they talked about and especially in Moses 6: 31-32. Look it up! Its a great scripture and really helped me! So far I have seen Elder Richmond Anderson, Devin Radmall, Jason Awerkamp, Brady Sargent, y a few other but I cant remember. After that meeting, we unpacked a little and then went to this thing called People and My Purpose Part 1. This was where a real investigator came in and we taught him/her! I was prompted to say something to one of them!(We rotated to three different investigators and passed around the mic to talk and ask question and bear testimony). Wednsday ended with meating our zone leader and getting a tour and finishing unpacking. lights out at 10;30!. Wow! I was so tired and have been these few days but I have loved it! I understand what they mean when you either love it or hate it. So far I love it haha! On thursday we did part two of that workshop which was cool and I felt the spirit strongly! I constantly am felling the espiritu (spirit) so much! Its great! We had more classroom and language study after for like 4 hours straight so Im going to have to get used to that. That night we met with our Branch Presidency and I was called to be District Leader of our ten elders! I am a little nervous but I am being trying to be positive and working hard in everything I am doing. I basically get the mail twice a day and lead out in district meetings. On friday, we prepared and taught our first investigator Elizabeth in spanish! It went a lot better than I expected. Everyone said that it would go horribly but my companion has helped me a lot with my spanish and he and I did pretty well! We taught her how to pray and she said the closing prayer! Even thought she is a fake investigator I already feel the love for her and cant wait to teach her again when my spanish is even better! Saturday, today, I have done laundry and just chilled so far so its nice to have a break from the rigourous schedule. oh and also on friday, we had gym time and played soccer so that relieved so stress. Study hard, play hard is what we do! Until Next week! Ciao!

By the way with the mail and letters, the best way to contact me is through dearelder.com. I can actually get those and read them that night and dont have to wait until pday so send away please! :)

I can also get packages everyday so that would be nice as well sent I cant get them in Argentina.

Mom, things I need(I forgot my list of stuff I made so next week Ill have more:
a few folders to keep loose papers in
a tooth brush holder
hair gel/wax
I'll send pictures in seperate email!
